Elasticsearch 8.8 release notes and highlights

The Elasticsearch 8.8 release was released on March 8, 2023. It includes a number of new features and improvements, including:

  • Enhanced synthetics monitoring: Elasticsearch 8.8 introduces a number of new features for synthetics monitoring, including the ability to create custom synthetics checks, the ability to schedule synthetics checks, and the ability to view synthetics check results in Kibana.
  • Semantic search: Elasticsearch 8.8 introduces a number of new features for semantic search, including the ability to use synonyms and the ability to use fuzzy matching.
  • Security: Elasticsearch 8.8 includes a number of new security features, including the ability to use X-Pack Security for authentication and authorization, the ability to use Transport Layer Security (TLS) for encryption, and the ability to use Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) for fine-grained access control.
  • Other improvements: Elasticsearch 8.8 also includes a number of other improvements, including:
    • Improved performance for large clusters
    • Improved scalability for timeseries data
    • Improved support for machine learning
    • Improved integration with Kibana
